Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), Austria

FiBL Austria is a non-profit organization based in Vienna. The FiBL team in Austria currently consists of 18 staff members, who are working on a broad spectrum of topics in organic agriculture. Essential elements are the practical orientation and processing scientific and practical knowledge in a client-oriented way, to render them accessible to the farmers.

FiBL Austria coordinates and manages cropping trials in a country-wide network of experimental farms (currently 60 farms). Issues addressed include both, crop management (seeding rates, weed and pest control, mixed cropping, soil cultivation), and the regional suitability of crop species and varieties. Another priority area is the transfer and regional adjustment of farmers’ knowledge and of the ongoing research in organic crop farming. Scientific results and practical experiences are quickly made available to farmers (www.bio-net.at).
